On his exhibition, Pat writes:
'Welcome to this collection of paintings and sketches which represent the various styles, subjects, forms and techniques I have enjoyed exploring over the years. In 1967, I began working professionally in television, joining Rediffusion TV as a graphic designer and animator. This role exposed me to a broad range of artistic influences, which is reflected in the different styles and media—oils, acrylics, cold wax, and watercolour—that you see here.
This exhibition represents a selection of my work from various periods, created between the demands of my various day jobs working in animation, graphics and advertising. It’s a diverse collection, featuring subjects such as Alfred Hitchcock and Cary Grant at Grand Central Station, a Reno Rodeo bulldogger, ‘Mack The Knife’ in the Berlin demi-monde, Norfolk coastal scenes, steam trains at Gasworks Tunnel, and the memory of a Soho crime scene that I witnessed in 1961.
The Wild West has always fascinated me, so here we have The OK Corral and The Dalton boys' last stand. Australian landscapes, particularly The Pilbara and Sydney Harbour, have long been a fascination, and the local views of Crouch End and Hampstead will always keep their interest and always be my home. Some of these have been painted plain-air directly from the subject, some from memory and some are pure fantasy but to me none the less real.'
