Waterlow Park is a large, leafy park in Highgate. Lauderdale House is situated on the edge of the park, looking out over the beautiful Tea Lawn and terraced gardens.
Please note that Waterlow Park and Lauderdale House are now run separately.
Waterlow Park was once the private estate of Sydney Waterlow. In 1889, he generously presented the land to London County Council, designating the area as "a garden for the gardenless". It was fully refurbished in 2005, and is now a hugely popular public space enjoyed by local residents of all ages and backgrounds.
Waterlow Park contains a kitchen garden, orchard, children's play area and many wide, open spaces for the people of Highgate and Archway to enjoy. Waterlow Park also attracts a wide variety of wildlife, including ducks, bats, herons, woodpeckers, hedgehogs, bees, frogs and butterflies.
Although we host some open-air events and activities on the Tea Lawn, Lauderdale House does not own Waterlow Park or any of the outdoor areas in the park. This outside space is run by Camden Council alongside a group of tirelessly dedicated volunteers called Friends of Waterlow Park and the Waterlow Park Trust Advisory Group.
Camden Council have asked us to share a brief reminder of park etiquette as the weather warms and park use increases.
Families are more than welcome to come and picnic any time during Park opening hours, but they ask that people respect the nature and other users.
Please also note that BBQs are no longer possible in Waterlow Park, as overcrowding, rubbish and smoke have impacted on this natural and beautiful environment in the previous years.
As a reminder, if you are organising a larger, more formal gathering of over 20 people, you need to contact the Camden Events team so that they can ensure everything runs smoothly.
