This inaugural Family Trio exhibition brings together the drawings of Jenny Kallin with the work of her two daughters, Sophie and Phoebe. Expect to see three different styles of art from one supportive, inter-generational family network.

Jenny works in ink and gouache, inspired by her extensive dollshouse collection and the art of Kubin. Her dreamlike drawings are at once both nostalgic and claustrophobic. Jenny studied art at Guildhall, when her children were school-aged, inspiring her daughters while learning herself. She has since exhibited with multiple art groups and is still producing artwork many years on. Sophie and Phoebe both have other part-time careers and school-aged children. They started their art careers in March 2021, when the schools reopened, supporting and encouraging each other along the way.

Sophie is a textile artist creating scenes of London with only scraps and her sewing machine. She captures the juxtapositions of the hard concrete and steel of London architecture with the soft, textural layers of fabric. Her interest in the cityscape and in fabric stems partly from her study of anthropology and her work for TfL. She developed an innovative way of working, and loves to reuse, giving unwanted textiles a new purpose in her art. See Instagram @sewthescene and www.sewthescene.co.uk.

Phoebe is an illustrator who captures childhood moments and moods in her own distinctive greyscale style. She took up drawing upon discovering the work of Susan Valadon, bringing her perceptive eye from her background in museum  family learning. Her young children’s  emotions and playfulness also inspire much of her work. She loves experimenting with fast lines, bold shade and simple backgrounds. See Instagram @drawnoutdrawnin.

The work of these three family artists comes together to create a rich, atmospheric show, with its different, unsentimental portrayals of childhood, nostalgia and London.
