Doors, caves, letterboxes, windows & pockets. Portals of every kind provide the inspiration for new work by local artist Blaise Thompson.
Exploiting images from his collection of drawings, photographs & Instagram account @mereportals, Blaise has produced a collection of sumptuous paintings on canvas. Sometimes the origin or starting point is clear & at other times less so. Colour & texture are created through a mixture of working methods, including collage & pochoir. Working for many years as an illustrator has given him a strong affection for graphic symbols & typography. “A lot of my painting is a reaction to my illustration work” says Blaise, “I want the surfaces to move & change when you pass. Not be flat & still.”

Blaise Thompson will be exhibiting at Lauderdale House’s Lower Gallery during gallery opening times from Wednesday 6 July to Monday 1 August 2022.

The usual gallery opening hours are:
- Monday / Tuesday: 12pm - 4pm
- Wednesday: 11am - 3pm
