Lauderdale House's annual photographic competition is back and open for entries! 

Whatever your photographic ability, you can enter up to 6 prints, with a chance to be selected for our exhibition in July. The overall winner of the competition will be awarded with their own free solo exhibition at Lauderdale House!

Main Categories

Like last year, there are two main categories:

Open - This category is open to prints of any subject matter.

Themed - This years theme is 'Purple'. Entrants for this section are invited to interpret the theme as widely as they wish e.g. literally, representatively, etc.

Entries must be sent or delivered to Lauderdale House and there is an entry fee of £3 per print. Entries will be accepted from Monday 17 June to Sunday 23 June between 11am - 4pm.

Young Photographer Competition

After the success of last year, we are please to be continuing our Young Photographer's Competition! This is a category for photographers aged 25 & under. This is a free-to-enter category, with submissions sent digitally.

The theme for this category is Architecture (to be interpreted however you see fit!) and is limited to one submission per person. The winner of this category will have their photo printed and framed by Lauderdale House, and will be included in the exhibition. This category is not eligible for the overall winner selection.

Rules

Main Competition

Please read the rules below carefully before making a submission. 

  1. This is a competition with two categories:
    Open (This category is open to prints of any subject matter.)
    Themed: "Purple" (Entrants for this section are invited to interpret the theme as widely as they wish e.g. literally, representatively, etc.) 
     
  2. Lauderdale House Society reserves the right to refuse entries which are considered to be discriminatory or inappropriate by the judging panel. 
     
  3. Colour or black and white prints are acceptable and should be no larger than 60cm x 60cm when framed. Prints must be framed in a suitable frame. ART WORK WITHOUT FRAMES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. PLEASE SEE HANGING INSTRUCTIONS AT THE END OF THE SUBMISSION FORM.
     
  4. Work should be priced on the back or marked ‘not for sale’ (NFS). Name, address, telephone number, age (if under 16) and category must also be written clearly on the back of all prints.  To avoid confusion, it is also necessary for an arrow to be placed on the reverse to indicate which way up the print is to be hung.
     
  5. Entry fees £3 per print. A maximum of 6 prints may be submitted per entrant. Cheques and postal orders must be made payable to Lauderdale House Society. All entries will be acknowledged. Please wrap all entries carefully (but note that we are unable to return your personal wrapping).
     
  6. Entries must be sent or delivered to the North Entrance of Lauderdale House, Highgate Hill, Waterlow Park, London N6 5HG (ring the doorbell marked ‘office’ if the gallery is closed. You should also enclose with your entry:
    a) Fees (you can make a card payment to us upon delivery)
    b) Completed entry form
    c) Optional CV (we would like to compile a folder to be displayed in the exhibition with information about exhibitors).
     
  7. No work which has been submitted to previous Lauderdale House competitions will be accepted.
     
  8. Entries will be accepted at the following times: 
    Monday 17 June to Friday 23 June, from 11am - 4pm
    Saturday 22 June & Sunday 22 June, from 12pm - 4pm
     
  9. Approximately 110 prints will be selected for the exhibition. Entrants whose work has been selected will be notified after Tuesday 4 July.
     
  10. A winner will be selected from each category:
    Open (This category is open to prints of any subject matter.)
    Themed: "Purple" (Entrants for this section are invited to interpret the theme as widely as they wish e.g. literally, representatively, etc.)
    From these categories, an overall winner will be selected and offered an individual exhibition at Lauderdale House.  There will be no charge made for the gallery space; however, a 10% commission on sales will be taken.
     
  11. There will be more than one judge and the judges’ decision will be final.
     
  12. The exhibition will open on Tuesday 23 July. The private view will be on Wednesday 24 July from 7.30pm - 9pm. All entrants are welcome. Winners will be announced at the private view. The exhibition closes on Monday 12 August.
     
  13. Non-selected prints should be collected immediately after notification, on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 June from 11am to 4pm and Sunday 30 June midday to 4pm.
     
  14. Selected prints must be collected between Tuesday 13 August and Tuesday 17 September, on weekdays from 11am to 4pm, or by prior arrangement with the office. Lauderdale House cannot be held responsible for prints not collected after Monday 2 October.
     
  15. The exhibition will take place in the Entrance Hall and Lower Gallery. Opening hours will vary depending on private bookings, and we reserve the right to change them at short notice. Please check our website or call us on 020 8348 8716 to confirm opening hours.
     
  16. All entrants agree that Lauderdale House may use their photos for the promotion of the competition this year and in the future. 

Young Photographers

Please read the rules below carefully before making a submission. 

  1. This category is open for entrants aged 25 & under. 
     
  2. Only digital admissions are accepted, and must be emailed via the link above with photographic competition as the subject, along with your full name and age.
     
  3. The winner of this category will be included in the photographic exhibition, but will not be considered for the overall prize.
     
  4. Entries must be submitted as a .jpeg file.
     
  5. The deadline for submissions is Sun 23 June.
     
  6. There will be more than one judge and the judges’ decision will be final.
     
  7. All entrants agree that Lauderdale House may use their photos for the promotion of the competition this year and in the future.
