Light & Shade First Prize: 'Fondazione Prada, Milano' by Neville Morgan ARPS
Neville Morgan is interested mainly in architectural, abstract and urban landscape photography. He enjoys exploring the way reflective materials such as glass, water, metal, plastics and other sheet materials re-interpret the world around us. Neville strives for minimalism in his approach and always searches for different views of the ordinary. In his most recent work, Neville has moved towards abstract interpretation but has also been investigating the potential of Polaroid prints to further express his interests. He draws his inspiration from both the natural and the built environment. Neville was overall winner of the 2023 Lauderdale House Photography Competition and held his prize of a solo exhibition entitled ‘Urban Focus’ in the Upper Gallery at Lauderdale House in August 2024.
Open Category First Prize: 'Vermeer Came By' by George Blair
On his photograph, George writes:
'Relaxing in one of historic Trieste’s Viennese cafés, all dark wood-panelled walls, mirrors, lamps and filtering sunlight, suddenly a woman came into view - a Vermeer come to life, quietly engrossed, cleaning cutlery, a 21st century waitress or 17th century maid? Caught between the sun’s rays, and shadows sombre as any 17th century Dutch home, echoes through the centuries elided. I took several photos from slightly different angles, trying to capture the chiaroscuro effect, highlighting the woman’s sculptural image. Vermeer is one of my favourite five artists. Having missed the hugely popular London exhibition, I visited the three major Dutch galleries to see his work, where I was able to study it uninterrupted by crowds. Vermeer Visits reached the semi-final of Urban Photo 2025: an international exhibition held in Trieste.'
Light & Shade Runner Up: 'Happy Days' by Colin Page
Colin Page has been been taking photos on and off all his life. He did develop his own film and prints, but with the widespread use of computers, he taught himself Photoshop. Colin likes to capture spontaneous moments of everyday London life. He has learned a great deal more about photography from being a member of the City of London & Cripplegate Photographic Society.
