Join the Mayor of Camden for a special evening celebrating the remarkable career of acclaimed actress Ann Mitchell, in support of the Mayor of Camden’s Charity of the Year, Women at The Well.
Hosted by actress Martina Laird, the evening will explore Ann’s extraordinary career across theatre, television and film, from her early days at East 15 Drama School and her pioneering work with the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow, to her much-loved television roles in Widows and EastEnders.
Ann will reflect on the people, productions and experiences that have shaped her career, as well as her work as an actor, teacher, mentor, director and writer.
The evening will support Women at the Well, the Mayor of Camden's Charity of the Year. Woman at the Well are a support service for women based in the King's Cross area of central London, providing practical support and advocacy to women facing a wide range of disadvantages.
About Ann Mitchell
Dr Ann Mitchell has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning theatre, television and film. She was the first scholarship recipient at the newly established East 15 Drama School and went on to work with the pioneering Citizens Theatre in Glasgow.
She was nominated for an Olivier Award for her role in Through the Leaves opposite Simon Callow, and became known to millions through her leading role in Lynda La Plante’s groundbreaking television series Widows and as Cora in EastEnders.
Her theatre work includes playing Hecuba in Tantalus, the ten-hour theatrical marathon written by John Barton and directed by Sir Peter Hall. More recently, she received critical praise for her role as Texas outlaw Etta Ryles in Gunfight at Dry River.
Alongside her acting career, Ann has worked extensively as a teacher, mentor, director and writer. She was nominated for a Susan Smith Blackburn Award, alongside Susan Todd, for their play Kiss and Kill for Monstrous Regiment. She was also awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of East London for her services to drama as an actor and teacher.
