Please join Concert Party for an evening of the 'Hausmusik' of Johannes Brahms in the lovely setting of Lauderdale House.
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) was revered during his lifetime as one of the “3 B’s” of classical music along with Bach and Beethoven. As a young man his music was championed by Schumann and Mendelssohn and other renowned composers and musicians of the Romantic era. He maintained a lifelong emotional and musical connection with Clara Schumann, one of the greatest pianists of her generation and widow of Robert Schumann. The orchestral and choral works of Brahms have never lost their position in the concert repertoire while the Hungarian Dances, Waltzes and famous Lullaby were instant popular favourites and have remained so to this day. However, we believe Brahms’s most inspired and expressive music can be found in his chamber music, songs, and piano compositions.
Music by Johannes Brahms to include:
· Clarinet Quintet, 1st Movement: Allegro
· Piano Quintet in F minor, 2nd Movement: Andante, poco Adagio
· Hungarian Dances for piano duet
· Scherzo for Violin and Piano from the FAE Sonata
· Serious Songs, op 121
· Intermezzi from op 117 and 118
