Kids in Museums Takeover Day is when galleries, historic homes, archives and heritage sites all around the country invite young people in to take over jobs normally done by adults, with the aim to empower young people and invite them to explore local museum spaces. Since 2017, we have participated in Takeover Day with St Michael’s School, Highgate.

Before Takeover Day, children at St Michael’s work hard to create a beautiful display to take over Lauderdale House. Previous themes have included the Unicef’s Rights of Children and Women in STEM. The exhibition of children’s work is then opened for the day and visited by all classes at St Michael’s, as well as family, friends and other visitors. In addition, Year 5 pupils take over the roles of the Lauderdale House Team, welcoming guests at reception, lending a hand in the office and even taking over our Twitter Account

It is a fantastic way for children to share their hard work with the community as well as find out about working in an arts and heritage organisation.
