Kids in Museums Takeover Day is an annual event where galleries, historic homes, archives and heritage sites all around the country invite young people in to take over jobs normally done by adults, with the aim to empower young people and invite them to explore local museum spaces.
For Takeover Day 2022, we had the delight of welcoming Year 1, 3 and 5 students from Brookfield Primary School.
Prior to the event, the pupils at Brookfield Primary School were tasked with creating exhibition pieces that reflected Lauderdale’s past. From designing a Tudor Feast and a new Lauderdale crest, to a crazy plant inspired by our former resident James Yates, the students breathed new life into Lauderdale House’s 500-year history.
On the day, pupils had the opportunity to talk about their work with the public as we will host an open house. Alongside this, the students produced content for social media, including tweets and Instagram stories. They were also able to try their hand at being an events manager as they showed their fellow classmates around the House for perspective weddings and parties!
It was a fantastic way for children to share their hard work with the community as well as find out about working in an arts and heritage organisation.
