Family Arts, Crafts & Dressing up

Explore Lauderdale House as part of the Open House London weekend! We will be throwing open our doors to celebrate Open House London - the ideal time to explore Lauderdale's history and discover the House's secrets. There will be plenty of activities throughout the day including:

•    Free children's crafts and dressing up - make your own Tudor brooch from 11:00am to 4:00pm upstairs in the Long Gallery
•    Self-guided discovery trails around the House from 11:00am to 5:00pm
•    Free guided tours of the House at 11.30am and 2.30pm

Go to the Open House Tour and Family Arts, Crafts and Dressing Up tabs for more information.

The guided tours are free but you must book a place through the booking link as capacity is limited.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet one of our board members, an expert on our history and one of the key people who restored the House to public use following a fire in 1963 for a fascinating tour of the House:

    • Discover the secret trompe l’oeil behind the stair case panels
    • Hear about Lord Lauderdale’s collection of books which nearly brought the House down
    • Understand the history of the ‘moving front door’
    • Find out what really went on at the archeological parties in the 1800’s
    • And why the workmen in in 1582 bricked in chickens, candlesticks and shows behind the fireplace.

11:00am to 4:00pm (upstairs in the Long Gallery)

Bring your family along to have fun dressing up as the colourful characters who once lived at Lauderdale House. Imagine yourself as the grand Lady of the House or a passing highwayman, a Victorian chimney sweep or famous philanthropist, a kitchen maid or famous 17th century actress, a parkkeeper’s child in the Blitz or even King Charles II.

Then colour in your favourite personalities and make Tudor brooches at the craft tables.
